Hairy Lemon

Jinja

Situated 15km downstream from the rafting starting point, Hairy Lemon's isolated location on a small island makes it the perfect getaway retreat. More rustic than luxurious, dorms and bandas (thatched-roofed huts) are basic and mostly share bathrooms. A short paddle away is Nile Special, a world-class wave for kayakers. It’s essential to book ahead.

To get here, take a minibus from Jinja to Nazigo (USh4000, one hour) and then a boda-boda (USh4000) for the last 9km to the Hairy Lemon. A special-hire from Jinja should be around USh60,000. There's a wheel hub here to bang on to alert the boat driver to come and pick you up. You need to arrive before 6pm.

Note this island is expected to flood when the Isimba dam is completed (estimated as early as September 2018).
