Eetcafé Ceramique

Maastricht

A local dining favourite for decades, Ceramique's relaxed, unfussy interior is always buzzy and low-lit by candles in paper bags. The wide-ranging menu mixes traditional home cooking with international dishes and flavours, with a large proportion of vegan or vegetarian choices: try the chicory-rhubarb lasagne with lime-vodka sauce. Reservations are wise.

For carnivores and fish-eaters there's still a decent selection. You might sip your way through an extra glass or two of organic wine while you wait for the food to arrive: patience is rewarded.
