Brasserie La Bonbonerie

Maastricht

Despite toweringly high ceilings with mirrored panelling and a large central chandelier, this grand cafe isn't unduly upmarket. Outside peak mealtimes it's often relatively quiet making it an indulgent place for a relaxed coffee or beer.

Built as a Jesuit church in 1614, and repurposed as a theatre from 1789, the building still has a stage albeit rarely used. It also houses the Russian honorary consul.
