Opened in 1918, Haarlem's Stadsschouwburg stages ballet and modern dance, cabaret, comedy and theatre (including some productions in English). The horseshoe-shaped main hall has three tiers of balconies, with a capacity of 1500 standing (725 seated), capped by a spectacular domed ceiling.
