Stayokay Amsterdam Stadsdoelen

Amsterdam

Stadsdoelen has friendly staff and is always full of backpackers, but slightly lacks atmosphere, and rooms are stuffy in warm weather without air-conditioning. There are 11 single-sex and mixed rooms (each with up to 20 beds and free lockers) and a couple of private doubles, plus a TV room, pool table and laundry. Breakfast costs €5.50 and towels are €4.50.

One catch: there are few power points in the dorms, so charge up your phone when you're out if you can.
