Pompey Museum of Slavery & Emancipation

Located in the Vendue House – a queen-conch-pink building from the 1760s in which slave auctions were once held – this one-room museum features exhibitions detailing the story of slavery and emancipation in the Bahamas. The name derives from Pompey, leader of an 1830 slave revolt on Exuma, who successfully resisted transfer to neighboring Cat Island.
