Ayothaya Riverside House

Top choice in Ayuthaya

Across the Chao Phraya River on the west side of Ayuthaya, this wonderful guesthouse offers a choice between pleasant rooms with fans, mosquito nets and shared bathrooms in an old wooden house, or satin-and-wood-decorated air-con rooms on a classic wooden boat.

The untouristed neighbourhood setting off the island (but still in biking distance of the main sights) offers a low-key experience, and the owners are as friendly as can be.
