Eschewing the usual African-style building involving wooden poles and palm-thatch, this vast luxury resort goes for whitewashed stone – for the villas, central buildings, balustrades, stairways, archways, water features, sculptures, even the plant pots – all set in beautiful gardens overlooking the beach. It's a spectacular place, and certainly unusual on Zanzibar.
