Bistro 103

Top choice in Eastern Taiwan & Taroko National Park

In an 1898 wooden building that was originally a police station, this utterly charming cafe is classically Japanese in both its wood-framed interior and its attractively presented lunches (ramen, donburi, curry rice etc). Alternatively, just soak up the atmosphere over barista coffee brewed on a Faema machine (NT$90).

Minimal English is spoken. It's less than 15 minutes' walk from the train station: head east to the central roundabout then turn left (Zhongshan Rd) and it's at the northernmost end.
