Gather a group of four or more then make the 25-minute trek to the town's eastern edge for a full range of authentic Penghu specialities, including pumpkin vermicelli, pork-and-octopus soup, wind-dried cauliflower and excellent, lightly fried cabbage in peanuts. The quirky venue has separate little dining rooms each amusingly decorated with bric-a-brac kitsch and 20th-century antique elements.
The portions are huge and designed for sharing, but when things are quiet, half-size (and smaller) versions are possible. A little English is spoken and a menu translation is available. The restaurant is a low-rise brick, stone and red-tile house facing the eastern end of Xinsheng Rd, 1.2km southeast of the very conspicuous Sheraton Hotel.
