Tiandiren

Taitung

This youthfully relaxed but moodlily atmospheric mod-Japanese izakaya does particularly satisfying don (rice-bowl) meals. The small tables are good for couples or individuals and there's an extensive English-language menu if you ask.

It's well stocked with different sakes, prices starting at hot/cold NT$100/140 but with some bottles running into the thousands. Decent beer selection too, including British and German options.
