In a garden of poinsettia, one of Taitung's finest Japanese-style wooden houses acts as showcase for local floral teas (NT$120) and single-estate organic coffees (NT$250) grown in Huayuan village. A small but excellent range of snacks includes French toast served with tangy custard-apple sauce. Even the music is local.
The place is owned by film director Chao-Liang Huang (黃朝亮), whose movie posters are displayed beyond the mini library section. At least one of the obliging employees speaks English having lived in Birmingham, UK.
