Of Taitung's cheaper, downtown minihostels, Who Knows wins on its low-key, jazz/bohemian vibe, its unusually bright and airy layout and the great spoken English of owner Jackson. The two dorm areas are pretty spacious and bunks have personal lamps, but the lack of lockers might worry security-conscious guests.
As the name suggests, the hostel is discreet: there's no sign but it's the inviting big-windowed corner place with a row of six outdoor bar-like stools that survey the street life and are often occupied by snoozing ginger cats. The location is excellent with countless snack options and a great little Belgian beer pub close by on Fujian St.
