Ariiheevai

Top choice in The Tuamotus

This place is one of the best deals in the Tuamotus. Rates include daily activities and excursions (flower-garland making, picnics on a secluded islet, visits to Bird Island and a fish park, swimming at La Piscine) and all meals – a winning formula. Digs are in 10 well-organised bungalows scattered on a well-tended property abutting the white-sand-fringed emerald lagoon.

It’s a particularly great find for families as four bungalows comfortably sleep four. For shoestringers or solo travellers, there's a comfy six-bed dorm with its own facilities (and air-con!), but excursions cost extra. The food is great and served buffet-style. Kayaks and a few (rusty) bikes are free. Reserve well in advance as it’s very popular with Tahiti residents. Cash only. The local dive centre is based at the pension.
