Bora Bora

Simple hedonists will be hard-pressed to find a mellower spot to maroon themselves for a languid holiday. On Motu Ome, two well-proportioned bungalows are dotted around a vast coconut grove by the lagoon. They were built using local materials in authentic Polynesian style, but the walls in the bathrooms don't make it to the ceilings and there's no air-con (only fans). Cash only.

It feels wonderfully secluded and relaxing, but take note this is not a resort; aside from swimming, snorkelling and kayaking, there are no activities – some guests may feel a bit captive. That said, boat transfers to the mainland can be arranged (from 500 CFP per person return, depending on distance). Evening meals cost 3500 CFP. No wi-fi access on the motu.
