Heritance Tea Factory

Top choice in Nuwara Eliya

High in mist-wrapped hills 13km northeast of Nuwara Eliya, this unique place has been built into and around a century-old tea factory. Blurring the line between museum and luxury hotel, much of the factory machinery is still in situ and has been incorporated into the design. Rooms are stately and plush and have heating. Service is first rate.

There are two different restaurants (one inside an old steam-train carriage) serving some of the best meals in the hills. Note: there's a pretty strict dress code for dinner.
