Hill Safari Eco Lodge

Top choice in The Hill Country

Located in a tea plantation, this fine mountain lodge enjoys outstanding views – on very clear days you can even see the Dondra Lighthouse on the South coast. There are five rooms, all with hot-water private bathrooms, and those in the new wing have amazing vistas. The lodge serves filling local food and is an ideal base for trekkers; there are walking maps available.

There's no wi-fi or phone signal. Hill Safari is 5km from Ohiya train station, via a rough access road that tuk-tuks just about cope with (but which drivers without high clearance may not want to tackle). It's at an altitude of around 2000m, so pack some warm clothes.
