Vakarai, about 20km north of Passekudah, is the idyllic home to this unplugged, off-the-grid very rustic beachfront retreat. There’s only electricity at night, and the five cottages are simple; the best ones are just steps from the water. The full-board meals include fish caught nearby. It's 2.5km from the Panichchankeni Bridge just south of Vakarai on the A15.
The location is out of a dream: at the edge of a headland and in view of a lush island that’s connected to the beach by a string of sand. That rumble you hear in the night isn't your partner, it's a frog.
