Sigiriya

A young backpacker crowd frequent this chilled creek-side hang-out. It's as much a drinking place as a restaurant, but the food is good value, from breakfasts to fruit rottis, Bob Marley is on musical rotation, and there are plenty of hammocks and riverside loungers made out of shipping pallets.

The owner also runs 2½-hour kayak trips on a nearby wewa (tank) for Rs 1800 per person.
