Hidden in a quiet residential street, Milano is a professionally run place in an elegant late-1950s house. The eight rooms are somewhat old-fashioned, but with a touch of class that belies the moderate prices. All rooms have thick mattresses, fridges and modern bathrooms. The restaurant is good (mains Rs 850) and there's a lovely garden for alfresco dining.
Milano has expanded operations to include half a dozen guesthouses, including the French Garden Tourist Rest and Melbourne Tourist Rest, so if this one is full you may be directed to one of these. All are good, with the Swiss Guesthouse the simplest of the group. Prices can be flexible.
