Kottukal Beach House

The East

This intimate, secluded beachfront villa hotel, 5km north of Arugam Bay, is managed by Jetwing, the well-regarded Sri Lankan hotel group. It's perfectly located for sybaritic surfers, as it's at the south end of the Pottuvil Point break. There are just four rooms (all large and with lashings of luxe), all in a two-storey, traditional-style beach villa. The common areas are commodious.

Food from the hotel's extensive menu (mains from Rs 1200), which includes plenty of fresh seafood, can be enjoyed wherever you'd prefer – a table on the terrace, or perhaps on the beach?
