Jaffna & the North
This likeable albeit isolated lodge, 9km northwest of Mannar Town, offers a quiet, rural base and is shaded by mature trees. It's particularly popular with birders. Manager Mr Lawrence is a great source of information and can organise birdwatching excursions. Good meals (around Rs 500) are available. It's close to the Thoddaveli train stop.
It's best suited to those with their own transport, though when the train line reopens there will be a station on its doorstep.
