Hotel Palacio Torre de Ruesga

Top choice in Cantabria

This two-towered stone mansion dating from 1610, 6km west of Ramales de la Victoria, has been remodelled into a deluxe hotel without losing its wonderful historical ambience with thick stone walls, wood beams, antique furniture and fascinating 19th-century frescos. The sizeable, stylish rooms (many with large, up-to-date hot tubs) range from four-poster affairs in the main house to family bungalows in the extensive gardens.

Breakfast is an ample buffet spread and excellent Spanish dishes (mains €12 to €20) are served in the bright dining room. There's a spa and massage service too.
