Algeciras

The major port linking Spain with Africa is an ugly industrial fishing town famous for producing the greatest flamenco guitarist of the modern era, Paco de Lucía, who was born here in 1947 and died in 2014 in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The tourist office has information on a self-guided Paco de Lucía tour that uncovers local landmarks connected with the great musician. New arrivals usually leave quickly, by ferry to Morocco or bus to Tarifa or Málaga.
