Kam Leng Hotel

Heritage gets a modern makeover at Kam Leng, a revamped retro hotel in the rising Jalan Besar district. Common areas are studiously raw, with distressed walls, faded Chinese signage, colourful wall tiles and modernist furniture. Rooms are tiny and simple yet cool, with old-school terrazzo flooring and pastel accents. A word of warning: rooms facing Jln Besar can get rather noisy.
