Kim Choo Kueh Chang

Joo Chiat (Katong) is stuffed with bakeries and dessert shops, but few equal old-school Kim Choo. Pick up traditional pineapple tarts and other brightly coloured Peranakan kueh (bite-sized snacks), and stop by the adjoining boutique for colourful Peranakan ceramics, clothing and accessories. Fashion designer Raymond Wong runs Peranakan-beading workshops (S$65), with each session lasting 1½ hours.
