Grand Central Hotel

This handsome Victorian hotel is part of the Central station: some rooms overlook the platforms. High ceilings, vast corridors stretching into the distance and a fabulous ballroom are highlights of this throwback to rail's golden age. Modern bathrooms and spacious rooms – superior categories are worth the upgrade – make this a far more comfortable trainspotting base than a footbridge in the drizzle.
