Braemar Lodge Hotel

This Victorian shooting lodge on the southern outskirts of Braemar has bags of character, not least in the wood-panelled Malt Room bar, which is as well stocked with mounted deer heads as it is with single malt whiskies. There’s a good restaurant with views of the hills, plus a 12-berth hikers’ bunkhouse (book in advance) in the hotel grounds.
