This genteel, characterful hotel near Brae has a long, sad history and inevitable rumours of a (friendly) ghost. Built in the late 18th century (though the oldest part dates from 1588), it has creaks and quirks and likeable rooms that are compact and retain a cosy charm. Sea views and/or a four-poster bed cost a bit more.
There's also a fine restaurant, a lovely guest lounge and very helpful staff.
