Árvore do Mundo joined Porto’s vegetarian and vegan dining scene in 2016 to cater for the growing number of locals and travellers eager to sniff out meat-free menus. Putting a vego spin on Portuguese classics, specialities include Porto’s renowned tripas à moda, where, perhaps appealingly, the cooks substitute tripe for tofu and mushrooms.
Positioned slightly off the main tourist trail in the Batalha neighbourhood, it offers peaceful refuge from the city centre with brightly coloured walls, calming meditation music and a pleasant waft of incense in the air. Come dinnertime, a selection of petiscos (Portuguese tapas) are offered, or for €10 you can choose a set menu including soup, a beverage (including beer or wine) and coffee.
