Monção’s most captivating in-town property is this restored 18th-century hilltop monastery with a glimmering infinity pool overlooking the river below. Spring for one of the deluxe front rooms upstairs, with French doors opening onto small balconies above the splendid riverfront terrace. Less expensive rooms, in the newly constructed annexe, are large with chic furnishings, but lack the former’s majesty and views.
The most unusual room is the Cella da Torre, built into the facade of the convent's former chapel, directly beneath the bell tower. The premises include a small spa and gym, as well as a restaurant.
