O Asiático

Príncipe Real, Santos & Estrela

Chef Kiko Martins taps into Lisbon's growing Asian-fusion frenzy with this casual but pricey Príncipe Real newcomer. Beyond a dark and sexy entrance hall, a surprisingly bright and spacious dining room emerges. Dishes – meant to share – marry Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean and even South American influences, playing up contrasting flavours of sweet, sour, pungent and tart.

The couvert pairs an assortment of flatbreads with kimchi butter and a slow-cooked sous-vide egg yolk with thickened soy, while plates such as the tuna ceviche with kaffir lime, lemongrass, coconut milk and tapioca, or cold noodles with lobster, shrimp, squid and green papaya are smallish but satisfying. The chocolate wasabi cake for dessert is a work of art.
