Charming Ingrid has resurrected the 16th-century Portuguese staple of castella – a beautiful sponge cake that Portuguese explorers brought to Japan, where it became a Nagasaki speciality, never to be heard from in Portugal again. Until now. It comes in original (honey) or green tea varieties and is baked fiercely according to Japanese tradition. It's a perfect snack or picnic partner.
