The 19-room Palácio Verride, dating to the 1750s, was once the stomping ground of Count Verride, whose former dining room now makes up the extraordinary Queen Suite, awash in original azulejos, hand-painted silk wallpaper and one of Portugal's most lavish bathtubs. Elsewhere, custom-designed furniture and heated wooden flooring offer a contemporary Nordic-ish counterpoint to marble and pre-earthquake luxury.
Criatura, the casual dining option, is decked out with custom Vista Alegre tableware and a photo exhibition on loan from Museu Coleção Berardo, while Suba, the fine-dining rooftop restaurant, sits on a towering lookout that offers downtown Lisbon's only 360-degree city view. The whole thing is a discerning bastion of Scandinavian-evoking style, while not losing sight of its historic past.
