9Hotel Mercy

Bairro Alto, Chiado & Cais do Sodré

This luxury hotel has sleek ultra-modern rooms, though the black colour scheme (for both the rooms and bathrooms) may seem overly dramatic. The cheapest quarters aren't large but are liveable. A French takeover has added the fancy on-site Double9 tea-cocktail bar, and its prime neighbourhood views are best framed from the seasonal rooftop bar.

Breakfast is €15 to €17 extra.
