Pousada do Castelo

Óbidos

In an austere castle dining room with wide-eyed countryside views through medieval ramparts, the restaurant at Pousada do Castelo is one of Óbidos' few sure-fire foodie haunts.

Welcomed change-of-pace dishes such as smoked duck salad and herb-crusted grouper share menu space with resurrected Portuguese plates such as stewed chicken in a clay pot (from '60s-era Alcobaça) and 15th century convent desserts like Brisas do Lis, a fine egg, sugar and almond confection. Be sure to book.
