Housed within the solid ex-brewery walls of the Stary Browar shopping mall, this unusual hotel offers an experience that feels a bit like sleeping in an art gallery. The soaring lobby is an extravaganza of red brick, steel and glass, while the cutting-edge designer bedrooms sport a decor of dazzling white and gleaming black, with shiny angular furniture and fittings.
The name has nothing to do with explosions, but is a homage to the 1966 film Blow-Up by director Michelangelo Antonioni, while the 5050 denotes that the enterprise is 50% business and 50% art. Guests are issued with an iPhone which unlocks the bedroom door, communicates with hotel staff, and controls facilities such as air-con and lighting.
