Formerly part of Expo '98, the 145m-high, concrete-and-steel Torre Vasco da Gama today houses this 186-room luxury hotel. All rooms are lavishly appointed, if a touch on the garish side, with ruby-red carpets and red pillows accenting an otherwise subdued colour scheme. Hanging egg chairs hover near big windows that provide stunning river views.
There's a spa, indoor pool and restaurant, and the open-air River Lounge juts out over the water.
