Parasol’s is the anchor of the Irish Channel, serving as community center, nexus of gossip and watering hole. It's first and foremost a bar, but you can order some of the best po'boys in town from the barebones seating area out back. The roast beef is a messy, juice-filled conduit of deliciousness, while the firecracker shrimp has a delicious burn.
Note that the bar is open until around 2am. The later you come, the crazier the characters – this spot has the vibe of a true old-school New Orleans neighborhood dive. Parasol's is also St Paddy’s Day headquarters, when a huge block party happens on the street.
