Offering a chilled-out and less touristy alternative to Xingping is this relaxed guesthouse set in the countryside on a small, organic permaculture farm. It's the site of a former primary school, of which the rooms on the ground floor offer tatami seating and garden views, while upstairs has rooms with balcony and karst views.
Even if you're not staying here, come by for a woodfire pizza or a meal cooked using its organic veggies picked from the garden. It's a popular spot with volunteers with an interest in organic farming. It has a scenic location, sitting beneath the sheer cliff of Yuan Bau mountain (which rock climbers can scale), among eucalyptus and pomelo trees.
To get here you'll need to take the small pontoon across the river at Xingping, from where it's a five-minute bike ride, or a 20-minute walk. Otherwise, call ahead to arrange someone to pick you up.
