In the countryside around 11 miles west of Blue Hill, Tinder Hearth attracts a loyal following for its delicious croissants, pain au chocolat, cinnamon twists and sourdough loaves – all fired up in a wood-burning oven. On Tuesdays and Fridays, they serve phenomenally good pizzas (from 5pm to 8pm), but it's essential to call ahead and book.
Dining is in an old weathered barn, or out on the lawn, backed by gardens and fruit trees, with play areas for kids and a kiosk for wines and local craft beers. It's an enchanting slice of rural Maine.
