Lap up local vibe, unchanged for centuries, at this former sluice-guard house at the foot of the sea dyke. The local waddentaart (a feisty fruit-and-rum pastry), famed far and wide, alone is well worth the trip. Otherwise, its traditional Dutch stamppot (stews), broodje garnalen (shrimp sandwiches), herrings on rye bread, paling (eels) and savoury poffert (mini pancakes) all the way.
The often windswept terrace is a lovely spot to linger on warmer days. Otherwise snug up inside over a mulled wine or hot chocolate with lashings of whipped cream.
