La Ocean Varadero El Patriarca

Named for a nearby giant cactus that the hotel developers mercifully didn't bulldoze, the Patriarca has some worthy quirks. The room units are wooden rather than concrete, there's a lovely intimate almost Moorish patio beside the lobby, and poolside 'entertainers' keep a lower profile than elsewhere. Then there's the beach – pure bliss!
