Jagannarayan Temple

Patan

Fronted by a pair of barrel-chested lions, dedicated to Vishnu as Narayan, the creator of the universe, and dating from 1565, this was the oldest temple in the square. The temple completely collapsed in the 2015 earthquake, but restoration using recovered and new components, including its roof struts alive with erotic carvings of couples, was underway at the time of research.
