Built in 1958 in the heart of the Sunset Strip, the Andaz boasts a mod, urban aesthetic while paying tribute to the building's heritage as the Hollywood Hyatt House (aka Riot House). Rooms have marble bathrooms, rates include small bites and nonalcoholic drinks in the lobby, and it's got LA's tallest rooftop pool for awesome city and Hollywood Hills views.
In its previous incarnation, the Riot House got its name from the rock stars – Led Zeppelin, the Who and Santana among them – who stayed here and partied like, well, rock stars. Keith Richards mooned the crowd on Sunset Blvd below, Slash passed out in the elevator, and numerous TVs were tossed from room balconies (maybe that's why they're now windowed off like sunrooms). The infamous John Bonham party tore up the 6th floor. A presumably more sedate tenant, Little Richard, lived here for 20 years.
These days, look for a changing selection of rock-and-roll art on the 2nd floor above the lobby.
