Cangas' parador (luxurious state-owned hotel) overlooks the Río Sella, 3km northwest of town. The main building, originally a monastery founded in the 12th century on the site of early Asturian King Favila's palace, , houses 11 gorgeously characterful rooms (some of them former monks' cells, suitably upgraded!),
The monastery church is embellished with unusual medieval carvings depicting various sins and the story of Favila's death in a fight with a bear.
