If you're on a Belgian beer pilgrimage, it's hard to resist heading to Westmalle. The Westmalle Abbey monastic complex producing the famous Trappist brews isn't open for visits, but you can cross the busy N12 main road to the abbey's own tavern, Café Trappisten. Here you can sample their classic brews or have them mixed as a 'half and half' (€3.80).
The site's 2km southwest of Westmalle town, beside the Antwerp–Turnhout road. Bus 410 stops outside twice hourly (at the Abdij stop).
