Don CeSar Hotel

The magnificent, coral-pink Don CeSar shimmers like a mirage as you approach St Pete Beach from the causeway. Built in 1928 it's the sort of elegant seaside palace you imagine F Scott Fitzgerald spilling cocktails in, with chandelier-dominated hallways and white cabanas by the glittering pool. You'd never guess that in the '40s it served as a military hospital.

Rooms are more relaxed roosts, and the full-service, four-diamond property has all you need: fine dining, a European-style spa, kids programs and, most of all, its own sultry beach. The latest addition is an open-air, beachfront sports bar with fire pits.
