Salinas Hotel & Restaurant

Top choice in Dominican Republic

This lovely thatched-roof hotel is located at the near-literal end of the road 20km southwest of Baní, amid semi-arid desert, striking mountains and a postcard-blue bay. The large, comfortable rooms have shabby-chic, rustic furnishings and stunning mountain views. The extra-large top-floor suites cost no extra, so it pays to ask for them specifically. Note that there's no beachfront.

The restaurant – easily the best place to eat in town – shares the amazing views and serves up lobster (RD$800), fresh fish (from RD$500) and chicken (RD$450).

Sailboats can dock at the attached marina and the hotel has its own helipad. Salinas is most easily reached by car, but there are guaguas (local buses) to Baní (RD$70, 45 minutes) that pass it hourly from 7:30am to 6:00pm.
