Ulcumano Ecolodge

Top choice in Amazon Basin

A birders' paradise in Chontabamba district, 10km outside Oxapampa, this lodge is perched in the forest and is named for the endangered Ulcumano tree. The species was sought after to build many houses hereabouts, but survives in the grounds here. Beautiful, light, wooden cabins sleep 18 people, the property's bird list surpasses 150 and there's a restaurant strung with hammocks.

Tailored hiking tours are offered into Parque Nacional Yanachaga-Chemillén, and there are mountain-biking excursions, too.
